I really would call the founding a rebirth of sorts. I was raised by Willie Lewis in Hankamer, Texas and I had cows when I was a little boy. I enjoyed those youthful days of working cows and riding horses with my grandfather. I enjoyed it so much; I would sneak in the barn and saddle my horse without my grand-parents permission, just to spend some time in the saddle. My grandfather became ill my junior year in High School and we were forced to sell our cattle and our horses. I cried for days, because I wanted to keep them. My grandfather, who was not able to read or write, asked me one, “Why are you so long faced boy?” I wept and told him this, I really missed those cows and horses, he looked at me and said, “Oh boy, those cattle were all pap knew, but son you have so many other opportunities,” He said, “I wish I could read a book or mark something other than an X for my name when I go sign papers.” He said, “I can count my making a mark, but I really wish I could count like you.” He said, “You see son, you already have a whole lot of what I wanted, but I couldn’t have.”
In that brief conversation, I received a whole lot of wisdom. I got a history lesson, an inspirational note, I learned to be thankful and humility was poured all over me. Immediately, I dried up those tears and he left me with a word of encouragement. Grandpa said, “Promise me that you will get your education, learn reading, writing and arithmetic. If you do those things for yourself, I will guarantee you will get some cows and horses someday.” I took him at his word.
I graduated with high honors from Anahuac High School and went on to Prairie View A&M University where I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. I received my Teachers Certification from Lamar State College – Orange. I took grandpa’s words to heart and I came back home and now I own a 260 acre ranch where the cattle are located and my family and I live on a 34 acre home site located 13 miles away. Our goal is to raise exceptional beef, grow our ranching business and to leave an inheritance for our children. My wife (Debra) wants to use the horses for therapy in one phase of the ranching operation. I use the horses for ranch work and stress relief. I enjoy starting young colts to saddle and teaching the first 60 days to work on the ranch. Horses are absolutely wonderful treasures. I manage the cattle operation and I want to be recognized for great replacement heifers. Living on the Texas Coast, it takes a pretty tough breed of cattle to endure the varying climate changed we have not mention the insects they have to ward off. The majority of the cattle have 3/8 percent Brahman influence and about 5/8 English influence. (i.e. Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Simmental) We do raise a few pure bred Angus and Brahman cattle, but our focus is on producing great replacement cattle which will perform in adverse conditions. Other services offered: building fence, providing horse and cow quality hay, cattle hauling, working your cattle, heard evaluations/market analysis. We hope that we can help you raise a better product. We can be reached at our mailing address or via email.
