Biographical Sketch
Born, reared, educated in Nashville, Tennessee. Wilma began her musical training under Jimmy Osborn (uncle) a noted pianist and organist in Nashville. Due to his blindness, Wilma was responsible for accompanying Mr. Osborn to all churches, concert halls and to recording sessions where he was a studio musician, allowing her the opportunity to become involved in and sing back-up for some of the greatest gospel singers of that era. Mr. Osborn formed a group called the Spence Gospel Singers and Wilma was allowed to sing and travel with them throughout the Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana areas. Wilma became a member of the Gospel Chords, the sister group to the then famous Royal Gospel Singers of which Bobby Jones was a member, where she traveled and toured with such groups as the Traveling Notes, The Gospel Pearls and many others to include Rev. James Cleveland.
Wilma is a 42‑year member of The Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. (GMWA) where she serves as captain of the soprano section leaders of the national mass choir, and a charter member of the Houston Chapter of G.M.W.A. Wilmas debut CD is here!
